A handy trick in the kitchen
For many recipes, onion and garlic are required seasonings. But sometimes, it’s a hassle to peel both ingredients first. Fortunately, there is a handy trick for garlic, but what about onion? Luckily, there is also a handy trick for that.
Peeling onions
Most cut only the ends of an onion and then try to peel the skin off. That is not always convenient. Sometimes the skin breaks off again and you have to find a new beginning. How nice would it be to pull the skin off in one smooth motion? That would really save you some time in the kitchen. Fortunately, you can. All you have to do is cut your onion in half.
Cut in half
First cut the ends of your onion and then cut the onion in half lengthwise. This way, it is much easier to find and grip the outer layer of the onion. Moreover, it also breaks down less quickly. Did you grip the layer? Then you often remove it in one smooth motion. It also easier to grip the layer again when it does break off. Ideal!
Prevent crying
When you have peeled the onion, you will obviously switch to slicing it. In no time, the tears dribble down your cheeks, because your eyes sting when the juices are released from the onion. There are many tips on the internet on how to avoid this. One way that actually works is putting your onion in the freezer beforehand. It doesn’t have to be very long, just a few minutes. The component that makes your eyes sting, is released less quickly when the onion is frozen.
